Bromeliaceae – the family of monocotyledons including around 3,500 species in 75 genera. Their natural environment is tropical and subtropical climatic zones of America. Over half of those species are epiphytes – plants that grow on the surface of other plants. Many of those species and cultivated varieties are perfect as houseplants due to their water and soil requirements. In the Botanical Garden, they are cultivated in a special greenhouse with high temperature and humidity. Among over 500 taxons the most common are airplants (Tillandsia).
