Dryas octopetala (L.) - mountain avens. Low prostrate evergreen dwarf shrub up to 10 cm high. The shape of the leaves similar to oak leaves, their length does not exceed 3 cm, characteristic large white flowers. Dryas octopetala grows in mountainous and Arctic regions of North America and Europe. Samples were collected in 2008 from Central Spitsbergen from the vicinity of Longyearbyen. The images of microscopic slides show parts of cross-sections of stems.
